  • Two new, future-proof projects with a gross floor area of 16,195 m2 and 126 apartments

Berlin / Vienna, September 12, 2024 – GROPYUS, the technology-based construction company specialized in creating aspirational, affordable, and sustainable multi-story residential buildings, has announced two exciting new construction projects. The company is creating a building comprising 27 residential units in Berlin for Vonovia, Germany’s leading housing company. In Immendingen, in the south of Baden-Württemberg, GROPYUS is developing its first residential quarter—nine buildings with a total of 116 apartments. These two very different projects underscore the versatility of the GROPYUS building system and how easily it can be customized and adapted to suit contrasting objectives and site conditions.

Urban infill development—sustainable living in Berlin

A modern residential building with a gross floor area of 3,779 m2 is being built in Berlin’s Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district. With this project, Vonovia and GROPYUS are demonstrating how infill development can be done effectively with future-proof apartment buildings that are sustainable and attractive. It is planned that GROPYUS will ideally commence assembly of the prefabricated components in the second quarter of 2025. The client is BUWOG Bauträger GmbH, a subsidiary of Vonovia SE, also a key strategic partner of GROPYUS.

The GROPYUS residential quarter: First four buildings to be constructed by March 2025

Acting as a general contractor, GROPYUS is currently building its first residential quarter in Immendingen, Baden-Württemberg, right by the Mercedes-Benz Testing and Technology Centre. This project addresses the growing demand for living space in the region, coinciding with significant economic growth. Construction is being carried out in two phases. Once complete, the project will have a gross floor area of 12,416 m², comprising 116 apartments across nine buildings. The design uses multiple different building types. GROPYUS is reducing these buildings’ environmental impact not only during planning and construction, but also during their ongoing operation—thanks to rooftop solar panels and the company’s integrated Building Operating System. GROPYUS intends to complete the project to QNG Plus standards in accordance with the requirements of the Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings. Work on the first construction phase, covering the first four buildings, has now begun. This phase is set to be completed by March 2025, while the entire quarter is due for completion in 2025.

Markus Fuhrmann, CEO and co-founder of GROPYUS, says: “These two innovative and future-proof projects demonstrate the positive impact digitalization combined with automation can have on the construction sector. Together, they underscore our ability to deliver a wide range of projects with different requirements—faster and more sustainably than conventional concrete structures. This allows us to make a real difference in addressing the shortage of affordable housing and tackling the climate crisis.”
