GROPYUS Smart Factory

A globally unique production facility is setting new standards for the construction industry

The industrialization of residential construction

At the GROPYUS Smart Factory in Eppingen-Richen, Baden-Württemberg, wall and ceiling elements for residential buildings are produced using sustainable timber frame construction – with a prefabrication level of over 80%. The digitized production process is precise and impressively fast. On a 24,000 m² site, automated workflows combine efficiency with the highest standards of quality.

Digital control seamlessly links planning and production. A total of 48 robots handle all key tasks along two high-performance lines – reducing production time, lowering costs, and ensuring consistently high quality. At the same time, the system remains flexible: product changes can be implemented digitally, without manual retooling or downtime. This enables the Smart Factory to reach a capacity of up to 3,500 residential units per year.

"With digital precision and industrial efficiency, the GROPYUS Smart Factory is setting new benchmarks for the future of construction."

Robot-based precision

All of the planning data is transferred to a parametric model via the in-house construction system and evaluated in real time. Automated production lines implement the data directly. Robots take on central tasks such as sawing, drilling, or inserting insulation materials—precisely and efficiently in a coordinated process.

A central sawing and distribution center forms the logistical heart of the facility. Materials are cut to size there and transported to the right stations by driverless transport systems. Finished building components, ready for assembly, are prepared for transport to the construction site – fast, efficient, and intelligently organized.

Sustainability and innovation – built into the Factory

The GROPYUS Smart Factory is not only highly automated, but also consistently designed for sustainability. Resources are conserved, waste is minimized, and materials are reused – supported by a digital control system that tracks all raw materials in detail, laying the foundation for a truly circular economy.

A modular system architecture allows for the flexible integration of new technologies and materials – without extended downtime. This keeps production efficient, adaptable, and future-proof.
