GROPYUS to commence construction in February 2026

Berlin / Dresden, 21 January 2026 – 41 apartments in eight months: GROPYUS embarks on another residential construction project that underscores the technological advancement of its timber-based construction methods. The technology-based construction company is building a modern apartment building with a total of 41 rental apartments on Blasewitzer Straße in Dresden on behalf of BUWOG, a subsidiary of Vonovia. The advantages of the company's industrialized construction methods are apparent in this project: It will only take eight months from the moment work begins on assembling building elements to handing off the finished building. The gross floor area is around 5,000 square meters, and the building comprises 18 three-room, 18 four-room, and 5 five-room apartments. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2026.
The residential market in Dresden, Saxony’s regional capital, is suffering from a severe lack of supply, much like many places in Germany. According to estimates, there is a shortfall of around 5,800 apartments, especially when it comes to affordable housing. There has also been a significant influx of new residents due to the state’s booming high-tech industry. Estimates state that around 4,000 new apartments must be built every year in the years to come to meet this demand.
The speed, precision, and efficient completion of projects together represent key advantages of the GROPYUS construction method, all achieved without any compromising on sustainability, comfort, or future-proofing. GROPYUS also offers its own Building Operating System.
Philipp Erler, co-founder and co-CEO of GROPYUS, says: “Our industrialized construction methods make it possible to create high-quality living space in the shortest possible time, without ever compromising on design, and tailoring the results to project-specific requirements. Each building is unique yet manufactured in series production. And this is exactly where our strength lies: building with speed, precision, and flexibility.”
Eva Weiß, managing director of BUWOG, adds: "BUWOG had already begun preparatory construction work after receiving the building permit in September 2025. This project will transform an area formerly occupied by parking spaces into new homes. The new apartment building, comprising six floors plus a penthouse floor, will provide a balanced mix of apartments that caters to different target groups and needs."
The project is classified as a class 5 building. Energy is supplied via district heating, and a photovoltaic system will also be installed. The project demonstrates once again how GROPYUS is responding to the challenges of the housing market with a pioneering and visionary solution, in the form of its modular and versatile building system.
